A Message From Our Founder

Read August Newsletter

Welcome to the August 2026 edition of Beyond the Pain Monthly!

As Founder of Beyond the Pain, I am grateful to continue creating spaces where conversations about mental health, grief, suicide prevention, youth empowerment, and community wellness can take place without judgment.

Beyond the Pain was created from a place of personal loss, but it continues to grow through hope, healing, education, and community. My goal is to remind every person we reach that no matter what they may be carrying, they do not have to carry it alone.

This month, I encourage you to check in on yourself, check in on someone you love, and never underestimate the difference that one conversation, one resource, or one act of kindness can make.

Thank you to everyone who continues to support, volunteer, donate, collaborate, and believe in the mission of Beyond the Pain. We are just getting started.

With hope and purpose,
Tammy Hunter

Beyond the Pain in the Community

Gary Storm Relief Outreach

On August 22, 2026, Beyond the Pain traveled to Gary, Indiana to support residents affected by prolonged power outages. We distributed water, sandwiches, flashlights, batteries, candles, snacks, Gatorade, and community resources directly to residents affected by the outages. Many residents shared that they had not yet received assistance and expressed deep gratitude for the support.

Mental Health & Wellness

Mental health is an important part of our overall well-being. Taking care of yourself does not always require a major change—sometimes it begins with small, intentional steps.

CHECK IN WITH YOURSELF

Take a moment to notice how you are feeling emotionally, mentally, and physically. Give yourself permission to rest when you need it.

STAY CONNECTED

You do not have to handle everything alone. Reach out to someone you trust, talk about what you are experiencing, and allow others to support you

ASK FOR HELP

Seeking support is a sign of strength. If life begins to feel overwhelming, consider talking with a mental health professional or connecting with a trusted support resource.

Your mental health matters. Your voice matters. You matter.

Suicide Prevention & Awareness

Suicide prevention begins with awareness, connection, and compassionate conversation. Changes in behavior, increased isolation, expressions of hopelessness, or talking about feeling like a burden may signal that someone is struggling. Taking concerns seriously, listening without judgment, and helping someone connect with appropriate support can make a meaningful difference.

Know the Warning Signs

  • Talking about wanting to die or feeling hopeless

  • Saying they feel like a burden to others

  • Withdrawing from family, friends, or usual activities

  • Significant changes in mood, behavior, sleep, or substance use

  • Giving away important possessions or saying goodbye

  • Showing extreme emotional distress or unusual changes in behavior

What You Can Do

  • Ask directly if the person is thinking about suicide.

  • Listen without judgment and take what they say seriously.

  • Stay with them or help them connect with someone they trust.

  • Help them reach appropriate crisis or mental health support.

  • If there is immediate danger, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department

Need Help Now

Free, confidential support is available 24/7 for people experiencing emotional distress, a mental health crisis, or thoughts of suicide.

If there is an immediate life-threatening emergency, call 911.
